Hyundai Elantra NStage 1 to Stage 4 tuning guide

The Elantra N uses the same 2.0 turbo family as the i30 N and Veloster N, but with its own larger turbo, so parts and tunes have to be Elantra-specific. US and Canadian tuners lead here, and most of them quote wheel horsepower. The limits are the high-pressure fuel pump, heat, the DCT's clutch packs, and 2024-on engine computers that are harder to flash.

Power by stage

Stock is Hyundai's engine figure. Stage 1 to 4 are the tuners' own figures at the wheels (whp), mostly on US 91–93 octane, which is about 95–98 RON in Israel; tuners measure a stock car at about 240–270 whp. The top of Stage 2 to 4 needs methanol injection or ethanol.

Software, with colder plugs

295–350 whp

A flash tune on pump fuel takes the Elantra N from about 240–270 whp to around 300–350 whp. Most tunes are sent in or come on a spare engine computer: Hyundai changed the computer in 2024 "to deter tuning", so a 2024-on car needs a bench flash or a spare computer (see N75). Plug-in modules add less and change nothing permanently.

Typical cost: flash tunes $499.95–$1,350 (Tork, LAP3) or CAD 799.99 (N75); JB4 $599; plug-in modules $583.80–$697 (aFe, DTE, RaceChip).List prices, Sept 2026, before shipping, import tax and fitting.

Recommended with Stage 1

  • Colder spark plugs required HKS M45XLNGK (heat range 9)

LAP3 and N75 both require one-step-colder plugs with their tunes.

  • High-pressure fuel pump recommended LF 2.0T pump (genuine Mobis, via LAP3)

N75 calls the stock pump "a weak point on this vehicle".

  • Gearbox (TCU) software DCT cars N75 DCT TCU tune

Clutch clamping, shift speed and launch settings for the extra torque.

Before you buyCheck the fuel-pump recall first: Hyundai's recall 262 covers 2022–23 cars built from 15 September 2021 to 23 November 2023 (the recall notice). US 91 octane is about 95 RON and 93 about 98 RON. Hyundai's warranty excludes modifications and parts it didn't supply.
2

Downpipe, intake and cooling

305–390 whp

Stage 2 adds a downpipe, an intake, a bigger intercooler and usually fuel parts, with a Stage 2 file. On the stock turbo, LAP3 measured 335 whp and 346 wtq at Stage 2 (LAP3's dyno); its methanol file reaches 350–390 whp.

Typical cost: downpipe $398 catless (LAP3) or $898.95–$1,398.95 with a catalyst (cp-e); intake $387.07–$419 (Injen, aFe, SXTH); intercooler $471.75 (Megan Racing) or £764.83 (Forge); fuel pump $385 (LF, via LAP3).List prices, Sept 2026, before shipping, import tax and fitting.

Parts list

Before you buyCatless downpipes are sold for closed-course use and won't pass inspection; choose one with a catalyst and keep the original parts. Methanol and E30 are not sold at Israeli filling stations.
3

Hybrid turbo

350–450 whp

Stage 3 swaps in a hybrid turbo, a bigger wheel in the stock housing. LAP3's hybrid files claim 350–380 whp on 93 octane and 370–430 whp with methanol. N75 warns that the DCT "cannot handle hybrid power levels", so a DCT car needs stronger clutches here.

Typical cost: hybrid turbo $1,095–$1,975 (Pure Turbos, LAP3, Turbo Parts Canada) or CAD 4,099.99 (N75 HT450); SSP DCT clutch kit $1,599.List prices, Sept 2026, before shipping, import tax and fitting.

Before you buyLAP3 calls the head-bolt threads "a weak point for aluminum blocks". Budget for plugs, fuel, cooling and a custom tune, not just the turbo.
4

Big turbo, ethanol and head hardware

450–500 whp

Beyond the hybrids, N75's ethanol package claims "upwards of 490whp" on E50, and LAP3's Stage X file reaches up to 500 whp. Full big-turbo kits exist, but we found no built short block made for the Elantra N, so at this level you are working with a specialist shop.

Before you buyThese figures need E50 or methanol, which are not sold at Israeli filling stations. Choose one shop to build, tune and stand behind the whole car.

Questions to ask the shop

  1. Is my car's engine computer a 2022–23 or a 2024-on one, and how will you flash it: bench, spare computer or send-in? Has the recall update been done?
  2. Which fuel pump and injectors does the car have, and will you log fuel pressure and trims before and after?
  3. Is it an off-the-shelf or a custom file, and for which fuel? US 91 and 93 are about 95 and 98 RON here.
  4. On a DCT car, will you tune the gearbox too, and what torque will you run on the stock clutch packs?
  5. Will the car pass inspection? Is the downpipe catted, and are any fault codes being hidden rather than fixed?
  6. How will you manage heat: an intercooler, fan settings or methanol, and what air-temperature and knock limits are in the file?
