Power by stage
Stock is Audi's figure. Stage 1 and 2 are the tuners' claims on 95 or 98 octane, which Israel sells. Stage 3 starts at 034's 468 hp on 95 octane; the 550 hp turbo claims don't state a fuel, and BAR-TEK says its own CEPA stages need 102 octane. Stage 4 figures are mostly on 98–102 octane or better, so on Israeli pump fuel expect the lower end.

Software only
380–420 PSThe Bosch MED 9.1.2 engine computer can be flashed through the OBD port by most tuners; APR says its first flash on newer cars goes through the computer's board, then by OBD. On 95 or 98 octane the files claim 380–420 PS, and APR measured the stock car at 374 hp before its tune (its page).
Typical cost: remaps $526.95 (APR), $625 plus a $180 cable (034), €650 (BR-Performance), €599–€799 (TVS) or €999 fitted (HPerformance); S tronic software from £500 before VAT (TVS); plug-in boxes €499 (RaceChip) or €799 (DTE).List prices, Sept 2026, before shipping, import tax and fitting.

The S tronic and the manual clutch
Stage-X-Tuning says the stock S tronic computer cuts engine power at its Stage 1 torque of about 610 Nm (its page), and BAR-TEK says the stock DQ500 clutch pack "often slips at 650 Nm" (its page). TVS Engineering is the only tuner found with gearbox software for the 8J: 600 Nm at Stage 1, 700 Nm at Stage 2 and 800 Nm at Stage 3 on the stock clutches, from £500 before VAT (PERON, its UK partner). On the manual, Sachs rates its organic performance clutch at 550+ Nm, below what most Stage 1 files ask for, and its sintered racing clutch at 810+ Nm (Sachs).
Intercooler, intake and downpipe
419–454 PSThe intercooler comes first. REVO calls an uprated one "a must" for Stage 2 and useful even at Stage 1 (its page), and Forge measured 72 °C air after three pulls on the stock unit against 35 °C with its own. With a downpipe as well, the files reach 419–454 PS, which is about the limit of the stock turbo: HPerformance calls its 450 PS kit "up to 450 hp on series turbochargers".
Typical cost: intercooler $1,255.50 (Forge) or $1,480–$1,830 (Wagner); downpipe $1,480 (Wagner) or from €1,999 (HPerformance); cat-back exhaust £1,043.01–£1,240.07 (Milltek); manual clutch €647.10–€744.35 (Sachs).List prices, Sept 2026, before shipping, import tax and fitting.

Bigger turbo
468–550 hpPast 450 hp the stock turbo has to go. The upgrade turbos below bolt on in its place and keep the stock engine internals. Fuel decides a lot here: 034's RS500 kit makes 468 hp on 95 octane and 515 hp on 100-octane race fuel (its figures), and BAR-TEK's own CEPA guide says 102 octane is "mandatory" for all its stages (its guide). On Israeli 98, water-methanol injection is the usual way to get close to the higher figures.
Typical cost: 034 RS500 kit $5,407; Loba LO500P €3,395; Turbo-Total 550 €2,637.78 before VAT; fuel-pump upgrade $390 (034) to €840.29 before VAT (BAR-TEK).List prices, Sept 2026, before shipping, import tax and fitting.

Big turbo and built engine
600–800+ PSAbove about 550 hp the builds get bigger turbos, forged internals, more fuel and a stronger gearbox. Sportignition says the stock main bolts must be replaced above 550 hp (its page), and BAR-TEK's 650 hp stage uses forged pistons and rods, a reinforced clutch and an oil cooler, on 102 octane (its guide). TTE says its TTE700 makes "over 600 PS on pump petrol", and a UK dealer quotes 650+ PS for the TTE777 on 99 octane.

Quick answers
- How much horsepower does a stock Audi TT RS 8J have?
- 340–360 PS from the factory, depending on the version.
- How much hp does a Stage 1 Audi TT RS 8J make?
- Tuners claim 380–420 PS at Stage 1, up from 340–360 PS stock (Stage 1 options).
- How much hp does a Stage 2 Audi TT RS 8J make?
- Tuners claim 419–454 PS with a Stage 2 file and the parts it needs (parts list).
- What is the most power a Audi TT RS 8J can make?
- The biggest builds, at Stage 4, claim 600–800+ PS. Check which fuel each figure needs: Israel sells 95 and 98 octane only (Stage 4).
- How much does a Stage 1 Audi TT RS 8J cost?
- List prices: remaps $526.95 (APR), $625 plus a $180 cable (034), €650 (BR-Performance), €599–€799 (TVS) or €999 fitted (HPerformance); S tronic software from £500 before VAT (TVS); plug-in boxes €499 (RaceChip) or €799 (DTE).
Questions to ask the shop
- Is the file made for 95 or 98 octane? Can I see a 98-octane dyno sheet, and is it at the engine or the wheels?
- How much torque will the file ask for, and does my S tronic need software, or my manual a new clutch?
- Will you check the injectors, the timing chain and the diverter valve before tuning?
- Is the intercooler made for the TT RS, not the RS3 8P?
- Does the downpipe keep the catalysts, and how will the car pass the annual test?
- For a turbo upgrade: which fuel pump and flywheel will you fit, and what does it make on 98 octane?
