Power by stage
Stage 1 and 2 are estimates: bootmod3's published percentage gains applied to the 503 hp Competition figure. Stage 3 and 4 are community build ranges. Real results depend on fuel, weather and the individual car.
Names with an arrow go straight to that part's product page for this car. Names in a dashed outline are other brands that make the part; exact links for them are being added.
Unlock, then software
up to +31%Before any flash tool can write to the S58 engine computer (DME), it has to be unlocked, on these cars usually with a Femto unlock. Some later DMEs cannot be unlocked at all, and that is decided by the label on the DME itself, not the car's build date. Once unlocked, bootmod3 and MHD are the two main flash platforms. A piggyback such as the JB4 needs no unlock and is easy to remove.
Typical cost: bootmod3 $595 (licence and one map).List prices, Sept 2026, before shipping, import tax and fitting.
Stage 1 tuning platforms compared
| Platform | Fuel | Claimed gain | ≈ Power (Competition) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| bootmod3 | 91 US / 95 RON | up to +17% | ≈588 hp | Off-the-shelf map; torque up to +28% |
| bootmod3 | 93 US / 98 RON | up to +21% | ≈609 hp | Torque up to +31% |
| bootmod3 | E30 blend | up to +31% | ≈659 hp | Needs a roughly 30% ethanol blend; torque up to +41% |

Recommended with Stage 1
- Gearbox (TCU) tune recommended
xHP
A gearbox tune is often recommended for the extra torque, and it sharpens shifts on the 8-speed M Steptronic.
- Heat exchanger (intercooler) upgrade recommended
CSFWagner TuningMishimoto
The S58 cools its charge air through a water-to-air system. A bigger heat exchanger keeps power consistent in hot weather.
Downpipes and breathing parts
up to +33%Stage 2 adds downpipes and intakes and runs a file written for them. bootmod3's Stage 2 maps claim up to +20% on 91 octane, +23% on 93 and +33% on an E30 blend. European cars also have a petrol particulate filter (OPF); removing it breaks emissions laws in most countries.
Typical cost: the same bootmod3 licence ($595).List prices, Sept 2026, before shipping, import tax and fitting.
Stage 2 tuning platforms compared
| Platform | Fuel | Claimed gain | ≈ Power (Competition) | Required hardware |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| bootmod3 | 91 US / 95 RON | up to +20% | ≈604 hp | Downpipes |
| bootmod3 | 93 US / 98 RON | up to +23% | ≈619 hp | Downpipes |
| bootmod3 | E30 blend | up to +33% | ≈669 hp | Downpipes |

Parts list
- Downpipes required
VRSFAkrapovičAWE TuningActive Autowerke
The S58 has two turbos and two downpipes. Choose catalysed versions if the car has to pass inspection.
- Intake recommended
EventuriDinanAWE Tuning
Small power gain and more turbo sound; helps on higher-boost maps.
- Heat exchanger upgrade required
CSFWagner Tuning
Heat is what pulls power first on a tuned S58.
- Mid pipe or cat-back exhaust optional
AkrapovičAWE TuningRemus
Mostly sound. On European cars, keep the particulate filter to stay legal.
Bigger turbos, fuel and gearbox
750+ hpBeyond Stage 2, builds add upgraded turbos, a low-pressure fuel pump and port injection for ethanol, and a custom tune with flex-fuel. With supporting mods and aggressive tunes the S58 goes well past 700 hp. These are community build ranges, not product claims.
Parts list
- Upgraded turbos required
Pure Turbos
Hybrid turbos keep the factory fitment and spool quickly.
- Low-pressure fuel pump and port injection required
Spool PerformanceFuel-It
High ethanol blends need far more fuel than the factory system can deliver.
- Custom flex-fuel tune required
bootmod3MHD
A flex-fuel sensor lets the tune adapt to any ethanol blend without re-flashing.
- Gearbox tune and driveline required
xHP
Plan the gearbox, clutch (manual cars) and xDrive driveline together with the turbos.
Built engine
900+ hpThe S58's factory internals are strong, so a built engine is for serious drag and roll-race cars: forged pistons and rods, big turbos, a full fuel system and a fully custom tune. These are community build ranges, not product claims.
Parts list
- Forged pistons and steel connecting rods required
JE PistonsWiseco
Sold as matched sets. Choose the compression ratio with your tuner.
- Custom dyno tune required
bootmod3MHD
Every Stage 4 car is tuned on its own.
- Driveline, cooling and brakes required
CSF
Gearbox, differential, axles, cooling and brakes all have to keep up with the engine.
Questions to ask the shop
- Can my DME be unlocked, and which unlock method will you use?
- Which platform will you use, bootmod3 or MHD, and why?
- Which exact map will you flash, and for which fuel?
- Are the downpipes catalysed and road legal where I live?
- Does my gearbox need a tune at this power?
- Can the tune be returned to stock, and what does that cost?
