Power by stage
Stock is Audi's figure. Stages 1 to 4 are tuners' figures at the engine, in PS or hp as each one publishes them (1 PS is about 0.99 hp); from Stage 2+ they ask for 98 RON, the best fuel sold in Israel.

Stage 1: Software only
300–315 PSA remap takes the K04 engine to about 300–315 PS. REVO quotes 300–315 PS and 318–333 lb-ft from 265 PS (REVO); QSTuning's own software 310–315 hp (QSTuning); and APR 310 hp and 311 lb-ft, or 337 hp with its intake-specific file (APR, at QSTuning). TVS Engineering's Stage 1 is milder, at 280 hp and 400 Nm for €399 (TVS Engineering).

Stage 2: Intake, intercooler, downpipe and fuel pump
315–380 PSStage 2 adds an intake, a turbo-back exhaust with a high-flow catalyst and an intercooler: REVO quotes 315–330 PS, and 330–370 PS for Stage 2+ with an upgraded high-pressure fuel pump (REVO). QSTuning's Stage 2 is 335–350 hp and its Stage 2+ 370–380 hp (QSTuning), and TVS Engineering's 330 and 370 hp, with 98 RON required from Stage 2+ (TVS Engineering).

Stage 3: Bigger turbo
400–435 PSThe next step is a bigger turbo. REVO's Stage 3 file is written for a Garrett GT3071R and makes 400–435 PS (REVO). In the stock position, TTE rates its TTE420 for the S3 8P at 420 hp, at €1,884.95 (STR Performance), and Loba says its LO400 can make 400 hp, at €2,254.95 (STR Performance).

Stage 4: Built engine and big turbo
497–525 hpThe top builds have forged internals. REVO's Stage 4 file, for fully built engines with an uprated valve-train, makes 400–497 PS (REVO). Peron Automotive's Stage 4 tune targets 500–525 hp on 99 RON, with a Precision 5558 or GTX30-size turbo, forged pistons and rods, upgraded injectors and fuel pumps, and TVS gearbox software for up to 600 Nm, for £850 before VAT (Peron Automotive). TVS Engineering says Stage 4 needs a forged engine (TVS Engineering).

- Do you clean the intake valves? Direct injection means carbon builds up on them.
- At what torque do you advise DSG software or a stronger clutch?
- Does the setup keep a catalyst, so the car passes inspection?
