The EA113 2.0 TFSI came with a small K03 turbo in the Golf GTI Mk5 and a bigger K04 in the Edition 30 and the Golf R Mk6, which is why the K04 swap is the classic Mk5 upgrade. On every one, the high-pressure fuel pump's cam follower wears and needs checking before a tune.

What the guides say about this engine
- Replace the cam follower with any new high-pressure fuel pump, and check it every 30,000–33,000 km on a stock car. The VW Golf GTI Mk5 guide
- VW built the Golf R's engine with a reinforced block, stronger rods and uprated pistons, but tuners still ask for forged rods past about 400 hp. The VW Golf R Mk6 guide
