Audi TTS 8JStage 1 to Stage 4 tuning guide

The first TTS has the EA113 2.0 TFSI with the K04 turbo, the engine in the S3 8P and Golf R Mk6. Audi rated it at 272 PS and 350 Nm from 2,500 to 5,000 rpm in Europe, with quattro and a six-speed manual or S tronic, and recommended 98 RON (Audi UK); US cars were rated at 265 hp and 258 lb-ft (Audi USA). Because the engine is shared, tuners sell the same files and most of the same parts for all three cars.

Power by stage

Stock is Audi's European figure. Stages 1 to 4 are tuners' figures at the engine, in PS or hp as each publishes them (1 PS is about 0.99 hp), on 95 to 98 RON unless the row says otherwise. The photo shows a modified TT RS of the same generation.

  • Engine tune required APRREVO034MotorsportUnitronicIE

All of them reflash the factory engine computer.

  • Gearbox tune recommended REVO DQ250 TCUAPRTVS Engineering

REVO raises the S tronic's torque limit to 500 Nm.

Before you buyREVO notes the S tronic's torque limits are built into its software, not its hardware, so a gearbox tune is part of any full-torque file. Check the fuel pump's cam follower before tuning: Autotech says to inspect the camshaft and always replace the follower with an upgraded pump (Autotech).

Stage 2: Intake, intercooler, downpipe and fuel pump

311–373 PS

With an intake and a high-flow downpipe, 034Motorsport quotes 311 hp, and 315 hp for Stage 2+ (034Motorsport). REVO's Stage 2 (318–334 PS) is written around the stock high-pressure fuel pump; its Stage 2+ for an uprated pump makes 333–373 PS (REVO). APR's Stage 2+ makes 351 hp on 95 RON and 362 hp on 98 (APR).

Typical cost: Wagner intercooler $849 (Black Forest Industries); Milltek downpipe $1,527.96 (NGP Racing); Autotech fuel pump $295.96 on sale (CTS).List prices, Sept 2026, before shipping, import tax and fitting.

Autotech says its pump flows 50% more than stock; $295.96 on sale at CTS.

Before you buyA downpipe without a catalyst won't pass Israeli inspection. With an upgraded fuel pump, replace the cam follower when you fit it and check it often.

Stage 3: Bigger turbo in the stock location

392–444 hp

TTE's hybrid K04 turbos bolt in place of the original. APR's file for the TTE420 makes 392 hp on 95 RON and 400 hp on 98, and for a Garrett GTX2867R kit 430–443 hp (APR). TTE's TTE420, listed for the 2009–2013 TTS, is proven at 414+ hp (NGP Racing), and the TTE480 makes 444 hp on 98 RON (NGP Racing). REVO's Stage 3 file, for a Garrett GT3071R, makes 403–438 PS (REVO).

Typical cost: TTE420 $1,732.12 or TTE480 $1,950.61 to upgrade your own K04 (NGP Racing).List prices, Sept 2026, before shipping, import tax and fitting.

Stage 4: Built engine

403–503 PS

REVO's Stage 4 file is written for fully built engines with an uprated valve-train and makes 403–503 PS with an 8,000 rpm limit (REVO). For the bottom end, BAR-TEK sells Wössner forged pistons listed for the 272 PS CDLB engine (BAR-TEK), and a JE piston and steel rod set it rates for up to 650 hp (BAR-TEK).

Questions to ask the shop

  1. Is my car a CDLB TTS, manual or S tronic, and which files fit it?
  2. When were the cam follower and the timing belt last changed?
  3. Will you log knock before and after the tune, and is the file written for 98 RON?
  4. Do you tune the S tronic along with the engine?
  5. Will the stock high-pressure fuel pump keep up with this file?
  6. Does the setup keep a catalyst, so the car passes inspection?
